EXPERIENCE WHITBY FOLK WEEK
Whitby Folk Week began in 1965 and is a long-standing celebration of the traditional music, dance and song of the British Isles. The Festival has taken on the trappings of a tradition in its own right. With over 600 events covering workshops, concerts, singarounds, dances, sessions, street entertainment and the extensive 'fringe' events that blossom spontaneously. The event takes place every August and is a funfilled festival for lovers of real music.
Many of the Towns Pubs and Inns embrace the folk culture, and allow themselves to be ‘taken over’ for the week, with different musicians and singers ‘jamming’ with other like minded musicians, entertaining the clientele drinking there.
Practically every street corner boasts its own musician or dance troop plying their talents. Many events take place in the Pavilion Complex with Concerts, Ceilidh’s and Social Dance events in this venue. With over 600 events taking place in and around Whitby help make this one of the country’s premier festivals.
A family friendly event the Whitby Folk Week is a great time to visit Whitby. Playing host to some of the most outstanding entertainment from some of the finest artists in the British Isles, Whitby Folk Week will be an experience you will never forget.
